What is Carlile Package Express?
Ever had trouble shipping to Alaska or been surprised by expensive shipping costs? Carlile Package Express is a “members only” shipping service that provides Alaska customers a low cost way to move shipments from Tacoma, WA to Alaska.

Many shippers offer free shipping for online purchases but it usually only applies if you ship your freight somewhere in the Lower 48; costs to ship to Alaska are unreasonable. Carlile Package Express gives small businesses and residential Alaska customers a solution for their shipping needs by providing our members with access to our Tacoma terminal for use as their shipping address.

Upon arrival at our Tacoma, WA terminal we will accept your shipment, create a record of it in our system, contact you for payment and move it to the destination terminal where it will be available for will call pickup.

Anytime you have a shipment moving in our system you will receive a daily email until the shipment is picked up at the destination terminal.


How does Carlile Package Express work?

What happens to catalogs or mail vendors send to me at using the Carlile terminal address?
Catalogs and mail sent to our Tacoma terminal will be destroyed. We do not ship or pouch catalogs or other mail from vendors to Alaska.

What if my shipment is not marked with my Member ID#?
If your shipment arrives without your Member ID# it will be processed as a normal Carlile shipment and will be subject to the rates applicable to standard shipments.

Can this service be used for online purchases only?
No, you can shop by phone or catalog as well and send the packages to our Tacoma facility. You can also drop off a package at our Tacoma terminal directly.

How can I calculate my shipping costs?
Please use our shipping cost calculator to determine the cost of shipping your item to your destination terminal. You will need the approximate dimensions of your package in inches or feet. The calculator is available here: Calculate shipping fees

Will I be charged sales tax on my item because it’s being shipped to Washington, not Alaska?
Some companies do not allow you to enter both “Bill to” and “Ship to” information when placing your order. Please verify with your vendor whether or not you will be charged sales tax if your order is shipped to our Washington Service Center. Most companies who enter both “bill to” and “ship to” information do not charge sales tax because the shipment will show as being sold to you (in Alaska).

How do I pay for my shipment?
Once shipping costs are calculated we will contact you with the charges. You may pay at this time or upon pickup at the destination terminal via cash, check or credit card.

Will I receive an invoice?
You will receive a delivery receipt with payment confirmation when you pick up your shipment.

Where do I send my packages?

Please consign your shipments as follows in the “Ship To:” portion of your order:

How can I track my package?
Once a shipment for you is entered into our system you will receive daily updates on your package until it’s picked up at the destination terminal.

Can I have multiple shipments sent to Alaska together?
Carlile Package Express defines a shipment as freight received on the same day from the same shipper/carrier going to one Package Express member. We do not consolidate shipments. Separate packages received will each be shipped and billed separately at the rate for each shipment.

What does “will call” mean?
Will Call service literally means we “will call” you upon arrival in Anchorage, Fairbanks or Kenai so you (or your registered designate) can come to our terminal to recover your shipment.

When can I pick up my shipment?
Shipments can be recovered during normal business hours at the destination terminal. In the event you need to pick up your shipment outside our normal hours please contact us. Visit our terminals page to view their normal business hours

What if I cannot pickup my shipment as soon as it arrives?
From the time your shipment arrives at the destination terminal you have five business days to recover the shipment before storage charges will be invoiced and billed to your account. A “freight on hand notice” will be mailed to the bill to address registered on your account and per the limitations confirmed during registration carrier may sell your freight at public auction after 30 days of the notice.

Can someone else pick up my shipment?
We will need written authorization from you in order to release your shipment to another person. During your initial registration you can designate who may pick up your shipments. During transit you may also indicate another party your shipment can be released to by contacting our Customer Service Department. Please note that shipments of wine must be picked up by persons over 21 years of age.

What do I need when I come to pick up my shipment?
All customers picking up shipments will need to show photo ID. The name on the ID will need to match the Members name or be listed as an authorized Alternate receiver.

What are your terms and conditions?
Thank you for contacting Carlile Transportation Systems, Inc. about our extremely low cost Carlile Package Express Service. Carmack Act full value liability provisions are not applicable to shipments under the Carlile Package Express Service. In consideration of the offered rates, Carlile Transportation’s liability for loss or damage will not exceed the lesser of: a) the actual value of the lost or damaged item, up to a maximum of $250.00 per shipment. All other limits and exclusions from the terms and conditions in Carlile’s Uniform Bill of Lading apply (available on request) as well as the terms and conditions at Carlile’s website at www.carlile.biz.

Different value limits are available outside the Carlile Package Express Service program, by contacting Carlile for its standard rates. Your submitting freight for movement under Carlile’s Package Express Service and its confirmation of your order constitutes your acceptance of the Carlile Package Express Service’s special shipment value limitations.


What if my package arrives damaged?
Our Tacoma receiving team inspects shipments upon receipt and notes exceptions found. In most cases your package will be shipped despite being received with exceptions. If our receiving team determines your shipment cannot be safely moved we will update you. If you find damage to you package after delivery contact the claims department at 907-276-7797 or carlileclaims@carlile.biz.

Is insurance available for my shipment?
No, we do not provide insurance for packages. If you require insurance we recommend contacting your insurance provider.
